There's one aspect of their behavior that gives me a bit of a kick and somewhat puzzles me at the same time. You know how when put your face close to examine one they jump on your nose? Is that suppose to frighten you? Is it their way of saying, "Hi! Want to be friends?" Or do they assume they've landed the big one?
So it's NOT just me! I always interpreted this as an attempt on my life - they usually land on my ear or get tangled in my hair! One actually managed to land on a lens of my glasses -- talk about horror! If I took the glasses off, I couldn't see the spider. If I left them on, I did see the spider! A true Faustian dilemma!

Jumping spiders are fun -- we have a few, but I have to keep them hidden from our daughter.

For real pest control in the basement we have a couple of wolf spiders. They take care of everything but the camelback crickets. I use glue pads for them, baited with a piece of hard kibble dog food.

That's certainly worth a vent and rant. How very annoying!

I think it borders on the rude, and a bit insulting to Gaiman, as well. Didn't they know he'd pack the house? Even if were just nerds (and, obviously, it's not), wouldn't they expect that type of crowd, anyway? What about Doctor Who fans, even if they hadn't read his books?

Sheesh. Now, seriously: would you ever trust a book recommendation from THAT bookstore, again, to be that out of touch? Major league Doltage, IMHO

That bookstore is responsible for me now having an eReader. Between stocking almost all of the books of several series except the first two or three (and then being surprised I complain about it), the man who rules over the Dutch and English fiction section always giving me a hard time when I want to order a book (saying he doubt I will pick it up, I've always picked up the books I've ordered) and them not knowing which books they have (me asking if they had any Terry Pratchett books, them saying no and me finding a book case full of Pratchett and Tolkien around the corner from the fiction section) the quickly convinced me ereading is for me.

The are the only big bookstore in my city, there is a big second hand bookstore and they have a lot of English books but mostly the ones students sell after they have read them for a course. And recently they've merged into one big company.

When I studied in Amsterdam I went to the Waterstone's and American Book Centre a couple of times a week to browse and buy.

To the disabled overweight lady at the restaurant yesterday afternoon,

I'm sorry you don't like our baseball team, my dad and brother do, but please enjoy your pizza discount for a team that obviously puts more effort than you do. It is only because of them that you can stuff all that greasy food in your face for less money than everybody else.

I'm sorry that you would have rather enjoyed that delicious feast at home. Most people don't go out to spend $50+ at a sit-down restaurant unless it's a special occasion, they don't feel like cooking, or were already out and about and didn't have any food at home waiting for them.

I'm sorry that your kid is a brat. But your attitude proves it has something to do with you. And telling him that you were going to punish him in front of everyone did not help you in any way.

I'm sorry that the world revolves around you, and that you think the servers were being discriminative. But you did not need to point out everyone who was getting seating and say that they were taking YOUR seats.

I'm sorry that you did not consider that it was Sunday afternoon, the day that most people go out to eat with their family. We waited the same amount of time you did, but we did not run our mouth whining about it, we just agreed to make sure to call in advance next time.

I'm sorry that at 24 years-old, I consider myself more grownup than you. I know that having a disability is hard, but it doesn't mean we have to push and shove everybody in our faces because of it. And for goodness sake, set a good example for your kid because they learn their values at home, and if you don't teach them good ones, well, they just become an annoying person that no one wants to be around.

Stop being the person that everybody in retail and food go home and laugh about with their family and Facebook friends. Because honestly, that is what you are. Grow up and stop running your mouth like you own the world.

Thank you,

Jessica

P.S. The salmon was delicious.

Ah, the sort thinking that their disabilities grant them an a*hole licence. Or make the use of common sense at their end of any problem superfluous. Know 'em. Hate that.

So I'm driving home on a two-lane winding road that doesn't allow for passing and I'm behind some joker who's going at least 5 miles under the limit for what seems a never-ending stretch. He finally turns off and within two blocks I encounter a replacement idiot doing the same thing. At least they're not as aggravating as the jerk who jumped lanes on Interstate earlier today to get behind me when it was obvious that I would soon be coming up on slower traffic that was going to require me to slow down. Him? He's 5 feet off my rear bumper at 60 mph. I was so tempted to hit the brakes; I really could use the settlement money. This fool was demonstrating from the moment his impatient backside changed lanes that he was driving faster then he could think; a very dangerous combination. I'm half-tempted to outfit my next car with a rear-facing M-60 for just such occasions.

This rant is part 548 in the continuing drama, "Why God hates me." This week's episode: "The universe obviously doesn't want me to drive."

Four days a week, I volunteer as a Meals on Wheels driver. Last week and this week the regular coordinator is on holiday, and has been replaced by another woman from the office.

Today I get to the kitchen about 5 minutes before the meals are meant to be ready, along with one of the other two drivers picking up from this location.

Maybe 20 minutes later (ie 15 minutes after the meals were meant to be ready), the door slides open and we're given the meals. Only thing is, I can see that not all the meals I am meant to be picking up are there; and the 3rd driver has yet to arrive.

I call the office, and the coordinator is not there. I manage to get through to someone who is familiar with the way it works, and manage to get the list of meals for the missing driver. Reviewing the combined lists I see we're short 3 diabetic meals, 2 soft means, and have 2 extra regular meals.

The other driver who was there, gets all his meals properly and is able to leave.

Luckily the extra regular meals are suitable for a soft diet, so they quickly get converted to soft. Of course, the kitchen is out of vegetables at this point, so need to wait 15 minutes for those to cook.

During this time the missing driver arrives, and is certain all her meals are there. I let her know that no, she does not have 8 meals as she thought but 10. Of course, she hasn't bothered to print her list and has it on her cell phone. Where is her cell phone? Outside in her car!

She heads back to get her list and gets back just at the vegetables and the diabetic meals are ready. Looking at her list I understand her confusion; while there are 10 meals listed in it, they did not bother to up the summary count from 8 to 10!

We both manage to leave (about 45 minutes behind schedule).

I get to my first stop and discover that the lids on some of the desserts (chocolate pudding) have come loose, and that my bag with the desserts in is now swimming in chocolate pudding

I proceed to the deliveries and the upset seniors who are getting their meals quite late.

Just as I've made the penultimate stop and am on route to the final stop my cell phone rings. I pull over and answer it; it's the coordinator for another program I volunteer for, one that drives patients home from hospital visits. Could I do a 2:30 pm pickup? (It's 1:45pm right now). I agree, then check to make sure a wheel chair accessible vehicle is ready (which luckily, it is).

Head off; do the final drop-off, pick up the paper work; pickup the wheel chair van; pick up my co-worker and head off to the hospital. Leave there by about 3:20 pm and drive the patient to her retirement home. I then sit and wait in the vehicle for about an hour and a quarter for the retirement home to send a nurse to complete the check-in process!

Finally make it home around 5:30 pm.

Sigh...

Now just have to remember to clean the food bags of chocolate pudding before tomorrows run!

Unless Thailand is close to eastern Scarborough, Ontario, I have to say no

And yes... bags now all steam cleaned and set for tomorrow. Just need to massage my list for tomorrow and print it, and I'll be all set. I like to add a summary of all the meals needed to the end, and to order the meals by the sequence I plan to do them in.
