505 to be sold by Waterstone's in UK

It looks like Waterstone's will be the exclusive (high street) distributor for the 505 in the UK when it becomes available in the UK this summer - July could be a good bet as it would catch those people stocking up on reading matter for their holidays. I wonder where that leaves the Sony Stores?

Interestingly it looks like the much heralded firmware upgrade will allow the 505 to read ePub format books.

And on the subject of formats, could a battle-royal be about to commence?:

Bookseller has been wrong before. Quite often. This isn't news; it's gossip.

"EPUB demo!! He used the library functions of DE. DE recognized the 505. He sent ePub files to the 505. And now he is reading the ebook in ePub on the 505." NTG 14/05/08

Looks like Bookseller got that bit right then!

Maybe Sony is going to announce a new model by then and that's why they are postponing the realease date..

*me finding all sort of excuses on Sony's behalf*

I walked into the Sony Centre in Tottenham Court Road, London this afternoon. They said they were expecting it this month. They also said there would be a Uk version of the Sony ebookstore and the price would be about £200.

If true (v. optimistic) it could be exclusive through Sony first before widening to other retail store?

It will be good to have access to the ebookstore, but I wonder if the model potentially on sale this month will have the firmware upgrade? I hope they don't go off half-cocked with a UK launch (not that there aren't any precedents for that!).

But (please correct me if I'm wrong) they demoed reading ePub files on the 505 back in Feb too, didn't they? The fact it's been demoed at a show does not, regretably, mean that release is imminent.

No, there was no demo back then. Just "slideware".

I believe they said yesterday was the first time they demoed the EPUB. I also don't recall epub being mentioned back in January.
