it's a good thing it's not a steam-powered paper newspaper ; that would never work.

Forgive me if I'm being dense, but I've been to the site and watched the video - where does the "steam power" come into it?

I believe it was a simple metaphorical witticism - both humorous and benign, the perception of which seems to be an increasing rarity these days..

@ Harry T

Not really sure myself. Found the Link on boingboing, and the article does mention that it is steam powered.

Perhaps the electricity to change the page is generated by steam?

A metaphor for what? The slow speed of the screen update? That's the only possibility which occurs to me after lengthy pondering upon the matter.

Haven't been able to find any more info on the Device.

However the company that has supposedly made it does have a few E-paper Products.

The More useful one is electronic point of purchase display to show digital price tags on shelves. Much more efficient and less wasteful then the LCD displays being installed in some places.

Probably. The original post on boingboing gadgets is much clearer:

Harry was right regarding the slow screen refresh:

Quote:
Using the mighty power of the elements, this electronic newspaper display can turn pages at an astonishing one page every fifteen seconds. You'd have a better page rate pressing your fingers against your temples, holding your breath and concentrating really hard until your eyeballs popped.
