Benson, Robert Hugh: A City Set on a Hill, v.1, 24 April 2008.
A proselytizing pamphlet. (1905).
From the introductory note:
‘RHB wrote the first version of this pamphlet “a few months before my submission to the Holy See, that I might test the solidity of the reasons that were moving me in that direction both by studying them myself in black and white and by submitting them to the criticism of my friends.” In this work we see a number of features that will reoccur also in RHB’s later apologetical works, especially his focus on the “Religion of the Plain Man”, and the way he understands the Church, as the Mystical Body of Christ, recapitulating certain events in the life of Christ (cf. “Christ in His Church”). This e-text edition of “City Set on a Hill” is from the revised edition of 1905, published by the Catholic Truth Society.’
