Profit margins have nothing to do with that. Profit is what is left over after all the costs, including customer service. They might cut customer service to maintain margins after cutting prices, but then they wouldn't have "considerably lower margins." But as long as they are profitable there is no reason they must degrade customer service.

Unfortunately, many people dislike the blue "glow" around the edge of the Fire HDX's screen when using the HDX for reading.

... and a hell of a lot more locked-down than even iDevices are, so a total no-go for me. Who wants to have some ultra-reduced, cut-down version of Android? Shudder.

... forgot to add: it's no achievement for Fire HDX to be lighter than iPad Air, considering it has a much smaller screen! In fact, HDX's screen size is roughly in between iPad Air and iPad mini.
No doubt, HDX is a fine tablet, but I'd be wary of Amazon's ultra-super-high-walled garden. |

who said gardens are bad ;-)
The problem is when the garden is not green, i.e. ... Amazon or Google (10 inches optimized apps) So yes, I like "Apple's Garden" ;-) .... and if it starts to die or looks brown, well, I will find another one that won't be, easy as that. |

The garden may be Apple's, but the finest flowers, plants and fruits in it are the work of external contractors -- outsourced gardeners, if you will. Without their contributions, Apple's garden would be a wasteland -- a walled wasteland at that. It may well be that the external contractors will, in increasing numbers, prefer to work for Android instead of Apple in future. Remember, that's what happened 2 decades ago regarding Mac vs. Windows...

The Kindle Fire 8.9 uses white LEDs instead of the blue found in the 7" model, there is no blue light bleed. Last edited by beckywc; 11-09-2013 at 05:17 AM. |
