R.I.P. (Ann) A.C. Crispin

Sad to hear that author A.C. Crispin passed away from cancer earlier today.

RIP Ann Crispin, Who Fought for the Writers
Quote:
You owe A.C. Crispin a huge debt, whether you know it or not. As an author, she helped carve a space for women writing science fiction. She helped prove media tie-in novels could be great books in their own right. And she fought for writers to get treated fairly, with the indispensible site Writer Beware.

Sadly, Crispin died of cancer earlier today.

EDIT: A nice write up at Tor.com

Others have mentioned it, but are we losing an uncommonly high number of Sci Fi authors all at once?

I used to read Writer's Beware and learned a lot from her. She was a fighter and an educator. She is already missed.

Me too I remember really liking Yesterday's Son & Time for Yesterday back in the day. I also liked her Han Solo books way back when.

I had forgotten that she was involved with V which was made into several miniseries and a short lived T.V. show back in the 80's. Of course I didn't know that A.C. Crispin was female either, not that it would have mattered to me. A good story is a good story no matter the gender of the writer.

Sad news. I loved her novelization of the original V mini-series and the others she wrote in that series of books.

RIP

I remember a quote from what I think is the 1st V book. It's near the end where they're on the ship that is going to blow up. They avert it (in a more realistic way than in the mini-series) and one of the characters observes that "if this is heaven (they are on the ship yet) I want to try the other place." I didn't know there was more than one book in the V universe.

I didn't know who the author was for some of the things I enjoyed.

I always enjoyed V.
