James, Henry: The Madonna of the Future, v.1, 22 March 2008.
A brilliant artist follows his muse and loses touch with reality. Is there a way back? This little story is Henry James’s tribute to Balzac. It is a re-telling of Balzac’s ‘Le chef d’oeuvre inconnu’, set in 19th century Italy. (Incidentally, the original Balzac story – translated as ‘The Hidden Masterpiece’ – has already been uploaded.) This work is in the Canadian public domain OR the copyright holder has given specific permission for distribution. It may still be under copyright in some countries.
