iFree - decrypts iTunes and iPod (mini) music
Why use iFree? Songs you purchase from iTunes Music Store are protected using your authorization information. Apple is using AAC files that include digital rights management (DRM) technology and any copy of iTunes (or any other appropriately QuickTime 6.2.2-savvy software) must know your authorization information to play the song. This DRM information enables Apple to implement many restrictions on how you can use songs you download. 1. First, you can authorize only five Macs and PCs at a time to play a song. 2. Second, you cannot convert your music from protected AAC to MP3, Ogg or your other favorite audio file format even the computer has already been authorized. 3. Third, when you use iTunes 4's Rendezvous sharing capabilities to share purchased music, the computers with which you're sharing must be authorized to play your purchased tracks. 4. Fourth and finally, the use of AAC and digital rights management limits you to playing purchased music in iTunes 4 on a Mac or PC and iPod. Use iFree, you can remove all of the restrictions with no sound quality loss!

It's unfortunate that the Patriot Act (In the US) makes the use of that application illegal, as that application can be seen as "breaking the digital rights barriers put in place" but the originators.
Unfortunately, I don't think I'm saying it very well, but I also think that the Act is too confining, not taking into account the Betamax case (again, in America) allowing Personal Use (Fair Use) rights. /shrug/ Congress is looking at two potential bills to allow a little more freedom in this regard, especially in the area of Fair Use, but it's contentious, and Hollywood in general has VERY deep pockets. The Enduser is on the losing end of this, I'm afraid. |

That is very true. I am not sure how European laws are regarding breaking copy protections for "fair use"; can anyone enlighten me?

It's cool to see how the computers and there programs have changed. Itunes cannot be hacked that easy anymore. But realplayer converter (legal) seems like it does the same thing.

Why would anyone purchase music that is infected with DRM? That just doesn't make any sense...
