Is Aura better at pdf ?

Hi

Is Aura better than Glo when reading pdf ? Are there new features suited for pdf in Aura?

I have Glo which I like for epubs, but for pdf I am struggling with a lot.

I want to buy either Nook or Aura. I just need opinions.

thanks

The Glo and Aura use the same firmware, so their PDF handling will be the same.

However the screen is bigger than the Nook, which can make a big difference with PDF reading.

Between the screen size and resolution, it is somewhat better. As PeterT said, the software is identical to that found on the Glo.

I think it's best to say that it's an incremental improvement and you will be able to read more PDF files using an Aura. It is by no means the perfect PDF reader.

The software's the same (aka: awful). The change is that the higher-res (and slightly larger) screen means that PDF files at full zoom aren't as unreadable as they were on the smaller, slightly lower-res screen.

The Kobo eInk e-readers are just not the right tool for reading pdf. It's more of an emergency fallback capability in case you are stuck somewhere with only your Kobo and you need to read a pdf document.

For books, they can't re-flow the text to fit the screen, so you are stuck with the original page image. It's always either too small or too big. You can adjust to a custom zoom level, but it takes several steps and you have to do it again on every page, so way too slow to use for reading. Using the quick tap zoom to 100% means that you have to pan around the page very slowly - again, not useful for reading. Why wouldn't you just do the sensible thing and convert to epub using Calibre?

As for pdfs with lots of images and color, you'll want to read those on a color tablet.

Aura has a little faster processor than all the other Kobo eink readers making it a little better PDF reader. This was really noticeable upgrading from Kobo Wifi to Kobo Touch reader with kobo wifi unbearably slow to Kobo Touch usable but not great. PDF text reflow is what everyone wishes for when reading PDF books with reader screen smaller than readable PDF page. Sometimes this reflow is as good as reading a EPUB book. Other books must have bigger screen and/or Color screen, and these books often are no better when converted to EPUB. If you think this could be a problem best try reading your PDF on the reader before buying.
