Text to speech plugin?

Is there any tool that can take a full-text book (e.g., EPUB or TXT) in my Calibre library and read it aloud with reasonable quality?

Google for text to speech software for <your operating system>

Once you've identified a program you like, then you can integrate it into Calibre using the existing Open With plug-in.

aha! brilliant. Has anyone already done this, for Apple OS - does anyone have a decent text-to-speech software to recommend, and perhaps already has it integrated with Calilbre so I could see what the appropriate options for this plugin are to activate it?

Just install the plugin and read its thread - all the info you need is there, the plugin is shipped with links to various applications - no tts tho'

My experience is that different people have different tastes when it comes to 'voices'. Try to find a product that lets you install different voices, then you can have a bit of variety, voices are available from outfits like Acapela, some are free others you have to buy.

The Mac has a built-in text to speech program, I have no idea whether its suitable for reading books - why don't you try it.
