I'll third graphic novel. And while there are many graphic novel adaptations of classic books, there's also a wealth of comic books and manga, some of which are available as ebooks other than CBR or PDF.

If it wins, I'd prefer we selected a book that's designed for the medium, not one that was converted from another format. I wonder if we can find graphic novels designed to be read as ebooks--smaller panels? fewer per screen?

There are some great graphic novels out there. One of my favorites is Pat Novak: For Hire, put out by Moonstone and available for the iPad via comiXology. In it, the detective (played on the radio show most famously by Jack Webb of Dragnet fame, with Raymond Burr of Perry Mason fame and others playing his perpetual adversary, Lieutenant Hellman of Homicide) is now an old man apparently in the early stages of Alzheimer's who finds himself called out of retirement to correct a mistake he made in his days as a waterfront detective in San Francisco.

If they are formatted correctly they look great on the KFHD, but I tried a Tintin recently, on behalf of my daughter, and it was a bit difficult to follow and more trouble than it was worth. For the right choice I'd be willing to persevere, however.

It is entirely possible to write and format graphic novels so that they will be both attractive and readable on a 6" eInk device. Whether anyone's done so, or whether there are reading apps specifically created to run on dedicated ereaders I couldn't say.
