Plus it's kinda cool in a way that Oprah promoted a post-apocalyptic horror novel on her show.
But because of Oprah, I wasted my time watching the movie No Country for Old Men. It wasn't good.

Wait, you call her followers lemmings, but you watched a movie because of her?

I don't mind at all if a few mostly-decent books get a bit of extra promotion. Where's the crime? Oprah's not a factor here in the UK, but we do/did have a direct equivalent in Richard & Judy. (Heh, just looked it up, and the TV show ended in 2009. I'm so in touch.)

Thank you!

Really did she put a gun to your head and force you to watch the movie, I seriously doubt it. I'm sure there were places where you could read a sysnopsis about the movie and determine from there whether or not you would like it.

Is this the only movie you have ever seen that you didn't like? Again I doubt it. Most movies never live up to the book, did you read that as well?

As it's been said before, anyone that promotes reading to the general public is doing a very good thing, that includes Oprah. Get over it already!

It was good, but I didn't know Oprah had recommended it.

It lived on briefly as The TV Book Club from which I got a few recommendations of books I enjoyed.

An Oprah lemming is one that reads everything Oprah recommends. They don;t bother to read about it to figure out if it is something that the lemming may or may not like.

I don't mind when good books get attention. But No Country for Old Men is an example of a book that Oprah should never have pushed.

She shouldn't have recommended the book because you've decided that the movie sucked?

Well, if Oprah recommended that movie, I say score one for Oprah.

There are things you can say about NCFOM(the movie) -- it's too bleak, too cynical, or even too faux-profound, but not good?

I don't think it's a good thing when one person has that much influence, but I don't pay attention to her, so it doesn't affect me. Shaking my fist at Oprah wouldn't accomplish anything.

I'm not sure if you were being serious or not, but that's what I was thinking when I read this.

I don't know about special Oprah versions of ebooks and I probably wouldn't be interested in a pre marked-up book. Although I'm not sure how different it is from an annotated classic.

In any case, even though I don't find the Oprah choices I've stumbled across that adventurous, there's something to be said for wielding your influence on people to improve literacy. She's not exactly pushing trash.
