I just figured it was to put more science in since Latin was the language of science. Also, to set it apart from 'now' a bit.
What I have really been wondering about, is with so much scifi calling Earth Terra, why does one of the authors in the promotion area seem to use Terra for something else, and is it on purpose enough that his story would actually explain it, or did he just miss what Terra is usually used as in scifi. Plotting and planning are great fun. Watching the dominoes fall is cool. The actual ruling is pretty annoying. I always stop the final domino and start over from the beginning. Maximum excitement, minimum boredom.
As for being God... I'm too antisocial to care about a universe but too amiable not to care. I'd either need to be more loving or a sociopath.
