I'm embarrassed to go to the front page of BoB at work, since one of the top sellers is invariably a bronzed six-pack. That might be why I still don't have an account with them and have never bought anything there.

I don't care if people like to read them, but I'm kind of thankful that the covers are hidden away on ereaders these days, to be honest.

Indeed... Just finished Monster Hunter International and the vampires were nothing you would go to bed with.

The blue girl is just way too skinny. Eat some food. You need to put on weight.

Without the blue skinny dancer, the cover would be a lot better.

The girl in blue is genetically engineered to be a top-flight dancer/acrobat and a member of a dance troupe in different jewel colors. How and why is a plot point. The other girl is her half sister who wants nothing more than a quiet life on an island paradise.

The dude on the cover lives a low-key life as a first-class slacker (out of self-defense--his family is composed of galactic-class schemers and over-achievers). And politics on Barrayar is a blood sport. The fun is watching him have to actually exercise his native talent without ruining his rep.

It all depends on why type or Romance novel you are looking for? Small town? Romantic Suspense? Romantic Comedy? Historical? Paranormal? Vampires? Okay no Vampires...just kidding. although one of my favorite series is Lara Adrian's Breed series. (alien vampires) If you grew up with Marvel you will love the books! They are a bit gritty though. Another superhero series is the Bigtime Series by Jennifer Estep. This one is more cheesy and pretty funny if you like that type of thing.

For Romantic Suspense try Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooter series or Linda Howard, Kay Hooper, Sandra Brown, Iris Johansen, Heather Graham and Tami Hoag.

I prefer more lighter romantic suspense stories so I read Julie Miller, Debra Webb and other Harlequin Intrigue books.

For Funny Romance there is Jennifer Crusie, Susan Donovan, Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Julie James.

Historicals there is Diana Gabaldon, Mary Balogh, Loretta Chase, Shannon Donnelly, Lynn Kurland, Carla Kelly, Nancy Bulter...the list could go on.

I read romance. It's pretty much all I read. I get alot of flack about it too but I don't care. I proudly display my books in my living room. Some do have the bodice ripper look to it some have pretty flowers and some have cool houses on them or other objects. There are so many kinds of covers.

I prefer Romance books with good plot, good characterization and a bit of intrigue that will keep me reading. Depending on the mood I may want funny or an action packed adventure to go with it.

I rather enjoyed Julie Kenner's PROTECTORS series. Young superheroes in love.
MaryJanice Davidson's FRED THE MERMAID series is a hoot, too.

Speaking of bodice-rippers: the vampire protagonist of Tanya Huff's BLOOD TIES books pays the bills--you can't really say he makes a living--writing purple prose bodice rippers. For the TV Series adaptation that ran on LIFETIME making fun of cheesy romance novels was out of the question so they made him a comic book writer/artist.

Do we all forget Bram Stoker....the Drac had a hankering for the ladies...and not just for a night cap... He was one of those bloodthirsty monster types....

Speaking of covers. Mary Balogh who we know to publish traditional Regency romances has been fighting with her publisher on the cover of a paperback release of The Proposal. Her books covers usually feature a lady in a dress. Very pretty and tasteful.

The new cover is a guy taking his shirt off. She finally gave in. I don't think she should of. Almost all comments from her fans said they hated the cover as it misrepresented her writing and story style. I found the cover to be ordinary and would pass it right by.

If you have Facebook you can scroll through her timelime and see the cover and the original cover that should of been used.

So it's marketing to blame for these man titty covers. Majority of romance readers prefer tasteful covers. I like the ones with couples on it in romantic poses. One of my favorites is this one here

What I liked about the cover is crossing out A Miles Vorkosigan Adventure and replacing it with "An Ivan Vorpatril Adventure" - the background is immaterial.
