An armful of books?

Not exactly an e-paper device but maybe it's pointing to the future (pun intended):

Quote:
Electronic tattoo display runs on blood
by Lisa Zyga

Jim Mielke's wireless blood-fueled display is a true merging of technology and body art. At the recent Greener Gadgets Design Competition, the engineer demonstrated a subcutaneously implanted touch-screen that operates as a cell phone display, with the potential for 3G video calls that are visible just underneath the skin.

The basis of the 2x4-inch "Digital Tattoo Interface" is a Bluetooth device made of thin, flexible silicon and silicone. It´s inserted through a small incision as a tightly rolled tube, and then it unfurls beneath the skin to align between skin and muscle. Through the same incision, two small tubes on the device are attached to an artery and a vein to allow the blood to flow to a coin-sized blood fuel cell that converts glucose and oxygen to electricity. After blood flows in from the artery to the fuel cell, it flows out again through the vein.

And now imagine someone hacking or spamming that thing.

*shudder*

I'll pass, thanks.

I don't know about the cell-phone application, but it's clearly the ultimate wristwatch!

Wonder if it can receive atomic clock signals ....

I would have to shave my arm. No, thank you.

By the way, I saw maybe 15 years ago that some amateur had worked on cyber-enabling his eyeglasses. He could see text displayed on the inside surface of the glasses but others couldn't. I think he a '386 PC in his shorts (that must have hurt). Anyway, I was really interested in seeing that developed. Has anyone seen it?

But where would you put the "Previous Page" and "Next Page" controls?

I, for one, welcome our new Borg overlords...er....cell phone devices.

If this were to work, it would be phenomenally awesome.

Anything that brings the works of Neal Stephenson one step closer to reality is a plus for me.

@Vivaldi: If the lads are smart, there could be some sort of follicle inhibitor in the plastic screen dealie. Know that I would require one. Or maybe the display would be brilliant enough to be seen through my cilia.

A "blood fuel cell" ?! This is excellent! I could add a usb port behind my ear to charge all my other portable electronics. It wouldn't look any more Borg-ish than the current crop of bluetooth headsets.

@Cthulhu: I thought you deep sea cephalopods were bioluminescent in which case it seems that you already have much of the hardware required to be your own bio-ebook reader. No?

Read the sidebar article on the right: http://tf.nist.gov/

With this, your watch doesn't have to receive the signals from WWVB, your watch can be an atomic clock itself.

And as for Barcey's comment, no comment

I see that there are indeed commercially available eyewear displays (examples here and here). Toss your eink screen and plug your eyewear into a processor in your pocket. Very cool.
