Excellent way to describe it. I felt so betrayed when I started finding this type of thing out. This was way before I had internet so I was bewildered!

It seems more authors are jumping on the thriller romance bandwagon still. I can only hope they return to their roots.

I started reading Pale Moon Rider tonight. It's very slow moving. I hope it picks up soon. I could fall alseep reading this.

Amazon has this special link highlighting their Romance Montelake titles that they posted on their Kindle Facebook page.

You really have to look past the horrible covers they use. You also have to look past who wrote these blurbs.

I can deal with the covers since I don't pay much attention to those, but those blurbs are just horrible. If the blurb doesn't draw me in, I won't even bother to sample, and I haven't read one yet on a Montlake romance that made me want to investigate further.

I'm the opposite I buy a book by it's cover. Always have unless word or mouth or outstanding review of the book tells me it's worth the risk.

The only ones I have bought were previous Dorchester titles.

Several Harlequins are Amazon's Gold Box Deal of the Day. One of my favorites, Shannon Stacey has Yours to Keep for $1.99, and the audio book is $4.95 @ Audible.

Link to other romances in this Audible $4.95 sale that ends Feb 18.

That is SO me. Especially for free books. I won't bother with it if the cover looks like crap. Unless it's an author I know, or has a premise that I can't resist.

Free from Amazon:

My Savage Heart US DE by Christine Dorsey (Splendor, 1994).

Quote:
Raff MacQuaid is a man torn between two cultures. His mother, a Cherokee, kept the young Raff with her people until he was forced by his father, a wealthy planter on the frontier of South Carolina, to be schooled in the arts of gentlemanly conduct in England. After returning to his mother's people and finding her dead, Raff has nothing but contempt for his father and the way he treats the Cherokee. Still he returns to his father's house when summoned because he fears something has happened to his brother's pregnant wife. But his father, debilitated with a broken leg wants Raff to go to Charleston and escort his wife-to-be, Lady Caroline Simmons back to the frontier. Raff at first refuses, but as his father sings the praises of the refined Lady Caroline, comparing her to the savages he lives among, Raff sees the perfect opportunity to avenge his mother. He will seduce Lady Caroline.

After her father's death Lady Caroline Simmons discovers she and her beloved younger brother have nothing but debt. She is forced to have a factor make an arranged marriage for her with a wealthy planter in the colonies who agrees to pay her father's debts and continue paying for her brother's schooling. When she arrives in the New World, alone and penniless, Caroline is greeted by a man she assumes she is to wed, but soon discovers he is the son of the man she must marry.

Raff has come to Charleston for more reasons than escorting his father's bride. Knowing the power of the British and the tensions between them and the Indians, he continually tries to bring about a treaty between the Cherekee and England...one that will be fair to his mother's people and that the British will honor. After meeting Caroline he feels some compassion for her and tries to get her to return to England. When she refuses his request he has no choice but to take her to his father.

Seducing Caroline is easy. She is an innocent, and though Raff made no promises, he knows she thinks he will marry her. But despite the feeling he has for her, Raff leaves Caroline with his father, and returns to the Cherokee with the govenor's offer of peace.

Caroline is heart broken, but she quickly learns that life on the frontier is hard. She has a friend in Mary, Raff's sister-in-law, and the Cherokee women who come to help at the plantation. She finds her future husband contemptable, and those feelings spread to the son, Raff, who seduced her, then brought her here.

Raff returns when the threat of war between the Cherokee and English intesifies. He wants to take Caroline and Mary to Charleston, out of harm's way. But by this time Mary is too pregnant to travel and Caroline has wed Raff's father, though in name only. Caroline knows she has to submit to her husband because she is pregnant. Both women refuse to leave when Raff heads to Charleston to take the Cherokee response to the English governor. While he is gone, renegade Cherikee warriors attack the plantation, kill Raff's father and capture Caroline. Raff goes after Caroline as the frontier ignites into warfare.
Borrowed Dreams US DE by May McGoldrick (Signet, 2003).

Quote:
Millicent Wentworth may have been unshackled from a miserable life when her cruel husband dies, but his legacy has left her impoverished and desperately needing to get help so she can continue to help those he enslaved. Her one hope comes with the offer of a marriage of convenience to a dowager's son. Lyon Pennington was emotionally and physically crippled in a horrific accident that left him a widower tormented by accusations of causing his wife's death. As the end of her life approaches, his loving mother is concerned about his care, and sees Millicent as someone who could assume the role of caregiver. Reluctantly, both parties agree. Neither wants another spouse, yet the marriage brings them both healing, desire, and eventually love.

Another Christine Dorsey freebie, this time from Smashwords:

Sea of Christmas Miracles

Quote:
Sea of Christmas Miracles is a Christmas treat, a novella that ties the Blackstone Men of the Sea, Charleston Series with a bright silver bow. Thomas Blackstone, son of Felicity and Devon from Sea of Temptation, is a wealthy Charleston businessman. He has the tables turned on him when he is kidnapped by Margaret Lewis to keep him from forclosing on the Freed Negroes's Orphanage Boarding School.

Quote:
She’s sinfully sweet. And he has a taste for sin…

A Pecan Creek story.

Monet Goody is keeping the spiciest secret in town. When the proper daughter of the town sheriff isn’t working at her tame librarian job, she writes a sex advice blog under the name “Allure Crimson”.

There’s something about the Harley-riding new guy in town, Elijah Stone, that makes her want to let her flirtatious alter ego out to play. But there’s something else about the bad boy that seems too good to be true.

Elijah is finding his latest undercover job almost too easy. Too easy to keep his eyes on the woman he’s been secretly hired to protect from a stalker. Too easy to discover what she does during her off hours. And too easy to succumb to her sweet seduction.

But when the job is done, Elijah finds it’s not as easy as he thought it’d be to put the Harley in gear and hit the road.

I can't tell you how nice it is to get a free book from them. I think I paid too much at Smashwords a couple years ago.
