Sticking it to the RIAA and MPAA might be the feel good solution but wouldn't creating a tax haven be much easier? Hey be nice or we'll let rich people hide their money here and you'll lose billions in taxes. They could even skim a little off the top with an international wire transfer tax or some such.

This is true, of course. I think the idea is that these individuals will put more pressure on the US government to reach an agreement with Antigua.

Antigua doesn't really want to allow free downloads; that's of no benefit to them at all. What they want is some concession worth $21 million to them; threatening with copyrights is just leverage.

Would it not be easier simply for the US government to abide by the WTO's ruling on online gambling sites? That appears to be the issue at the root of this problem.

Politicians do not care about abiding by treaties. They care about getting reelected. Between the religious groups, the legal gambling lobby and others there is plenty of money to elect politicians who are opposed to legal online gambling.
