Would Apple really make an iPhone mini?

I have a 40" set from Samsung and a Boxee box. But Boxee has decided to cancel that product which I think is a shame, because it has been great to stream downloaded material to my TV.

Depends on the size of the room and the viewing distance.
I've spent some quality time with a 70in Sharp in a family room that is 16x22 feet. It fits the room perfectly. Anything smaller would get lost and make the room feel like a cavern, anything bigger would take over the room.
At that size movies are a joy and Kinect gaming a delight.

(The house isn't enormous, 2300 square feet, but the floorplan is optimized for the residents' lifestyle and the family room is the focus.)

Considering those Sharps can be had for US$2000 (and my first, 37in, HDTV cost me that much) I see plenty of value in the investment. Of course, I also know folks that only watch talking heads on TV and that set would be wasted on them.

As with most things, your milleage will vary.

Same here. I liked mine so much I bought another for my study just to hook up to my stereo amp, without a TV. Because it's DLNA I can just drive it from any of my tablets or the phone, hauling music off my NAS.

That's a cunning plan! I'll have to have a go at doing that! You can actually control the streamer from a tablet, can you? May I ask what app you use to do that?

Same here. We have one connected wirelessly in the family room and one via powerline ethernet downstairs in the hobby room. The family room one is the latest model, which can be controlled via my iphone using Western Digital's HD TV Live iOS software from iTunes.

Both serve video and music via our 2 NAS units. Western Digital are always updating firmware to ensure full codec compatibility.

Certainly beats having extra HTPC's in the house.

I use Bubble UPnP. You just need to turn the WDTV Live on and then the app finds it and can take control. No need to have a TV connected. One caveat: the latest WDTV firmware update broke the ability to do this with FLAC files (which is the format for most of my music). I had to roll back to the previous version.

I also use Jamcast on my PC which Bubble can also see as a 'device'. This allows me to stream anything playing on the PC to the WDTV box. Ideal for Napster or internet radio or podcasts.

Not just CODECs, either. A recent firmware update, for example, added support for USB drives >2TB in size. I've been extremely impressed by the number of new features that WD have added to the device via firmware updates since I've bought it. An excellent level of support.
