Modify Favorites Icons?

I'm finding most of the icons for apps to be non-intuitive. Is there a way to modify the icons displayed in the Favorites area to add text to the icon?

You could decompile the app and redo the icon. That doesn't work for all apps though since there's APIs and stuff, and you might have issues updating them.

I believe decompile would translate to 'no' in this case. Thanks.
