I've been experimenting with Google Docs . . .
And it became obvious early on with this application was that sometimes you need to run a spreadsheet or write a document independent of the internet. So Google has added that feature to the operating system. You still use the internet browser as the base application, but files now exist to allow it to emulate Google Docs and allow local storage along with the Google Drive app. It isn't as powerful or flexible as a modern stand alone office app, but it is reasonably competent. (think of a mid life MS Works with the Works WP).
I imagine a reasonably competent and creative developer could take advantage of this new infrastructure to do all sorts of stuff.

My envisioned usage would be quite simple I think (pretty much like a tablet, but with a keyboard) - web browsing, email, reading ebooks possibly and writing/editing documents. ...

Not listed, but I'd assume one can use Nook for the Web to read B&N stuff.

My use is even simpler - I want an internet device I can hook up to two monitors, a keyboard, and a mouse to consume content. I don't produce content.

No chromebook but I have tried it before from a flash drive just out of curiosity, you can get that version here to be honest I lost interest pretty fast, I found out it wouldn't suit me I need more than a browser.
If you do what I did please check and double check you pick the right flashdrive letter to write the image to, if you picked your main drive instead of the usb it would be pretty bad. Last edited by Teknikal; 12-04-2012 at 12:28 PM. |

Thanks for that input Teknikal!
Hmmm, maybe I could try that out using my netbook....I'm afraid that would give me a true indication though as the netbook (the original Acer) has a mini screen and keyboard and that is pretty much why I don't already use it for these tasks. I'd like something more in size/form like a tablet (my Xoom as an example) but with a usable keyboard.

It may be the same for the Chromebook. If so, you'd need an internet connection to get to your books in the first place, but not to actually read the ones you've downloaded. EDIT: whoops, I missed the fact that this was answered up thread, sorry. Graham |

You are way too prolific for me to keep up.
I only follow certain sub-sections. Especially Monkey Devices and Banana Content.

I don't want to carry multiple pieces around -- an ultrabook or chromebook are fully integrated.
