overdrive open epub / open pdf?
I just ran into these for the first time on the Overdrive sites for my libraries. Seems like Overdrive is now offering DRM-free downloads of selected pdfs and epubs. How are these supposed to work--is there some way of returning them, since the DRM makes them expire? Has anyone checked these out yet?

They have always been available at my library, mostly from small publishers like Poisoned Pen Press. There is no way to return the book early. At the end of the loan period it will disappear from your E-Items Out, so you can no longer download it. You are expected to delete it yourself from your computer and devices, much the same as mp3 audiobooks.

Moreover, I believe they download directly to one's hard drive. I seem to recall having to go to My Downloads (I think it was) to locate it and then add it to Calibre from there (as a file source)? It did not go to Adobe like DRM'ed books do.

Theuy act just like any downloadable EPUB. Adobe books download a .acsm file, which is recognized by windows as an ADE file and opened with ADE. Not so with regular EPUBS.


MAKE SURE you choose a 7-day loan if you get one of these, or else you are stuck with it on your record for the whole 21-day period. They cannot be returned
