How to type "square brackets" [] in German(ized) Sigil?
While trying to do a reg-ex search with Sigil 0.6.0, on Win XP-SP3, German, and German keyboard setting - one had to type AltGr + 8 / 9 to get [] and while trying to type the reg-ex, it seems the find/replace next shortcut triggers. No [] shows up in the searchbox. No [] can be typed in bookview. Same with a new installation on Win 7 64bit. Also German. If keyboard-layout is changed to EN (via Taskbar) it is possible to type [] with the keys left the Enter-key. Brackets can also be typed - with German keyboard-layout - if the shortcuts are removed. What am I doing wrong? Last edited by Mark Nord; 11-29-2012 at 02:14 PM. Reason: typo |

No problems here with [] in Sigil.
I use English as Sigil language, but even when changing this to German I have no problems with the brackets in Search. Tested with Win7-64 home and Win7-32 prof. Must be a local problem on your computer. |

Rather than remove the shortcuts, look at changing them to avoid [].

Thanks for your reply.
Got this with two machines, but can live without the shortcuts. |

Just another observation:
Initially installed Shortcuts (after clean install, or delete of sigil.ini) are not the same as the ones you get with the Reset All button: Furthermore you can't redefine [] as shortcuts (after you removed them) because they will tranlate to Alt+Ctrl+[ with German keyboard-layout. Sigil 0.6.1 windows 64bit version on Win7 64 bit prof. |

If I delete sigil.ini and restart I get Ctrl+[ and Ctrl+] as the default keys - the same as when I do Reset All. At least under linux 0.6.1.

Thanks meme!
You are correct with GUI Language set to English! This seems to be an issue with the German translation. There "Ctrl" is translated to "Strg" and this is causing the trouble. Also posted a remark in the Translating Sigil Sub-Forum |
