Has Amazon fixed the NT screen yet?
I've reccomended to a friend to get a Kindle NT (the cheap non-touch model). However, I know that originally there were issues with screen quality. Also, on reading the PW debacle, I am having second thoughts about reccomending the Kindle NT.

Has Amazon fixed the quality control process on the NT, or is it pot luck?

Yes, they have fixed the problems. The new NT Kindle is excellent quality, great contrast. Just make sure your friend gets the new stock if they are buying at places like Best Buy. They still have some of the old silver NT's from last year out.
