Unhappy Problems with author_sort

Beeing completely despaired, I need help urgently.
On Calibre I have quite a lot of books for my Kindle Keyboard.
When I transfered them, I saw that the Kindle sorted them after First Name.
So I tried for days now to have Calibre display LN FN
Sometimes Calibre crashed when I changed something. And now I have a complete mix. Here are some examples:
Bertram, Chandler, A.
von, Bülow, Andrea
Warhol, Andy
Isaac, Asimov
Pip, Barker,, Jane, Barker
I tried 'invert' 'nocomma' 'copy' and manage authors but now I ended with a complete mix.
How can I sort them once an for all, that calibre displays LN FN, no need for commas?

Thank you in advance
Poldi

I have had a similar problem especially with a number of authors showing up under "unknown" even though the author name is showing up in the correct fields.
