Kindle DX now 299
I was browsing Amazon and noticed that the DX is now 299 USD. As I recall the old price was 380. It went on sale last year for 280.

I do not know whether or not this is a good sign. Hopefully they will continue to cut the price, as I am not willing to pay more than 200 for it.

Wish Amazon would make a Paperwhite DX. I love to use my DX for marathon reading sessions out on my balcony. Having fewer page turns is great!

Geez, this is the kind of price that I would expect from something with current-gen hardware and software, although I guess you can get away with this when you don't have any competitors.

If my DX broke, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another at this price. I paid $279 for mine last November in a one-day Amazon sale.

I agree about the price. There are other companies with 9.7 inch e-ink readers. The Onxy Boox m92 and Ectaco JetBook Color spring to mind. However, they are even more expensive than the Kindle DX.

I would be willing to pay upwards of 500 USD for an e-ink screen that is 8.5x11 inches or larger. I have been waiting for several years for one, but the companies have not been going in that direction.

If there is profit, they sell it. If the sales numbers are small, then they don't waste resources on updating it..

It's the screen that makes it expensive. I suspect that 9.7" screens are only made in small quantities, and hence are expensive. If you look at the other 9.7" eInk devices on the market, you won't find anything cheaper.
