Asus Windows 8 tablet pricing LEAKED & comes in SKY high
Windows 8 tablet pricing http://www.zdnet.com/asus-windows-8-...ow-7000004378/ Well those innovative chaps at Asus have had a bit of a slip up as the Pricing of there new wonder weapon Windows 8 Tablets has been leaked, The trio of Asus touch-screen devices will cost anywhere from $599 to $1,299 and the docking system/keyboard will cost a EXTRA $200 It look's like yet another high priced Tablet with low demand is going to hit the streets very soon on the 26th September. If these prices are correct then somebody at Asus must be smoking some mighty strong substances as these prices make the Ipod 3 look like good value for money in comparison The Asus Vivo Tab RT is an ARM-based device, pre-loaded with Microsoft Office 2013, starting at $599, according to the slide published on ZDNet. The price is higher than an entry-level iPad (Microsoft’s primary competition), but identical to the third-generation iPad with 32GB of storage. As we’ve reported before, the Vivo Tab RT will ship with 32GB. While the 10" 1366x768 display won’t be as sharp as an iPad’s, customers might get a lot more productivity out of these devices if they buy the optional keyboard dock. According to the slide leaked to ZDNet, the keyboard dock adds another $199 to the price, bringing the total price in line with a lot of decent Windows PCs. The Vivo Tab RT runs Windows RT, a version of Windows for ARM processors that includes the Metro touch interface and a subset of desktop capabilities, including Microsoft Office. The other two devices described in the leaked slide run Windows 8, the version for x86 processors that is fully compatible with all desktop applications. An Intel Atom-based tablet called the Asus Vivo Tab will start at $799, with an optional keyboard dock for $199. This will come with a trial version of Microsoft Office, according to the leaked slide. Finally, the Asus Taichi, a dual-screen device with an 11.6" 1920x1080 screen and Intel Core i7 processors, will have a suggested retail price of $1,299. Described at the recent IFA show in Berlin, the Taichi is nothing if not unique. It’s built like a regular laptop, except it has a display on both sides of the lid. Only the display on the rear is touch-enabled.8 Last edited by darksaber35; 10-31-2012 at 04:27 PM. |

If you're going to buy the tablet and dock, why not just get an ultra book?

"Business runs on Windows." Asus is betting on companies forcing their employees to buy more expensive tablets and getting rid of their iPads and Android tablets. All it takes is a few FUD kits in the right places.
You really think MS will allow sideloading of apps on Win8? Trust me, the only office software that's going to be allowed on it, is MS Office. |

Not like it really matters, though. There's no way MS would allow a FOSS replacement for its own expensive software to run on Win8. There's too much money to be extorted. |

I smell total failure at those prices. Wouldn't mind one at HP's Touchpad fire-sale price though.

How are the prices high?
Take the RT model for example. It comes with 32GB of internal storage, so let's compare it to the 32GB 3rd gen iPad. For the same price you get twice the memory and better cameras, a quad core processor instead of the iPad's dual, a slightly bigger screen with lower resolution all in a lighter device. In my opinion the better specs vastly outweigh the lower resolution. The non RT model has a bigger screen, twice the internal storage, and a better processor, so I'm not surprised that it costs $200 more, and the third model can work as two connected devices. |
