To me the news isnt the tablet but the new Nook Video store/app apparantly with microsofts investment they managed to get most all the major studios there, the only ones missing are fox and universal studios and they are in talks with more. on release of the video store in november it will be the 3rd largest behind itunes & amazon but what amkes it better is if you have an ultraviolet dvd/blue ray you can enter toc code into the nook ap and have a free coppy in the cloud. also the video app will be available for android, windows, mac, ios and BB from what ive read. meaning that for the first time you can buy/own/watch vieo from a single app on any platform instead of being locked into samsung devices for the samsung hubs, or apple devices/pc for itunes, kindle fires or crappy browser support for kindle movies. to me thats bigger news than the tablet

If they can avoid being tagged as 'Android-lite' for having too limited an app store, they could do well. |

They do indeed, especially when one considers that the larger version of the Kindle Fire is not currently on sale in the UK.

This. The hardware looks great, but I have no interest in walled gardens.

so E-Ink comes up with a new screen and suddenly everyone releases new e-readers. I'm deeply shocked at news.

great specs, great price. design is ugly.. i do want a tablet of some kind but i'm really still holding out for an iPad mini for the ecosystem.. or possibly a Kindle Fire HD to try with Amazon Prime. this is really tempting though, and i like that it's light-weight. Maybe rooted it would be great.

Some questions off the top which personally are important to me.
Will Flash work given ICS and the broswer being utilize? With Nook Video available, what about the nexflix and hulu apps? Still available? |

We have the original Nook Color. I just don't know if I have much interest in another B&N device. I'm not a fan of walled gardens and relying on OEMs for OS updates. Plus phones have gotten so much better since then that I don't hardly use it anymore anyway.
The Nexus would still be my top choice I think. It's nice to see competition though. |

Nice to see B&N is still in the running. I find it pretty amazing that they are staying on par with Amazon so easily.

I don't believe this has anything to do with eInk. These are backlit LCD tablets, not eInk devices.

The screen is really reflective.
Not much for long term continuous reading, imho. B&N got almost everything else right, but they should have just installed a less reflective glass. It is supposed to be a reader after all, it doesn't even have a camera, so it's clearly not an overall-tablet. |

They have standard LCD (IPS type) screens with glossy glass surfaces. Not really great for that matte "paper like" e-Ink feel. |
