S&R: Truncate a string in a field

Dear Users,
while importing my e-books into Calibre I am facing to this apparently easy question. I want to truncate the content of a field to the first X chars.
How do you make this with RegExps in Calibre Bulk S&R Tab?
Thank you in advance for your possible suggestions

This time I gave myself the answer, which is however quite simple:

SEARCH: (\w{<number of chars>}).+
REPLACE: \1
