OK, if no-one else is going to post it:-

"iPhone 5 sets a sales record; 2 million pre-orders in 24 hours" source

So yeah, almost 1400 a minute over 24 hours - I wonder how many they sold over the opening weekend??

I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.

Wow. Impressive.

However, I don't think any commentator, regardless of their opinion of the phone, didn't think it was going to sell in massive amounts, particularly to those ready for an upgrade from the 3G and the 4 coming to the end of their 2 year contracts.

I can't explain ... Specially when that phone, it's still the same thing but bigger, hahahaha ...

Love my iPad, but I still believe there are better phones out there.

But again, impressive sales numbers.

So, everybody and their dog knew it would sell millions on the first weekend, yet, apple didn't manufacture enough to cover initial demand - or did they?

That has to be some kind of all time sales record regardless of category. If the price is $500 a piece that is one friggin billion in 24 hours. That is outside even Harry Potter's realm.

Not $500 each. I ordered the most expensive model at $399. The least expensive new model is $199.

Nothing but a mob of consumer zombies who need apple products to make themselves feel good inside, i think it's rather sad.

Would most normal people stand out side a shop for 5 days stait just to buy a phone ?i and all my freinds in a large number of different countries certainly would not
I feel pity for any person that would go that far to buy a brand product no matter who make it - apple ,samsung,asus ect ect

You get lines of sad los^H^H^Hconsumers for things like console launches too.
Even for such ... dedicated ... fans, more than a week beforehand is just ridiculous. Clearly these people have neither jobs nor lives.
A much more sensible scheme emerged for the PS3 launch in Japan, where people too well-off to want to camp out all night paid homeless people to stand in line for them

My mistake , these people are modern day heroes who EVERY BODY should look up to and emulate

The very fact that any one is willing AND HAS THE TIME to stand out side in the streets just to buy a product plainly ADVERTISES the fact that these people have little to NO life.

Can many of the people here take 5 days off work and live in streets OR WANT TO ?

I for one have a business to run that stretches 6000 miles from the UK to China and taking 5 days off to buy a mobile would be a insane thing to do as well as uncomfortable.
