Ok so to this end then... for gaming chatter I am going to go hunt down http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php a bit. see what is shaking.

And from qlobs suggestions (well what I thought he meant) have a think about porting something legal first.

Notch has done his fair share of hacking along the way
(I even have one of his music singles for the record, I wonder if he has any of mine?) I dont think he would hate me for humping some of his source.
Long as I don't hurt profits anyways. I'll fess up before it gets legal.

So Plan 1) - Covert Miners4k to the Kindle. It's open source, notches old baby (http://www.mojang.com/notch/), and POC. ( I thought this is what qlob was talking about originally, not the full minecraft 4k)

Update - I've emailed notch and given him the full skinny, I don't forsee a problem but at least we ballsed up and asked.

Last time I did that I got the rights to remix Mike Hardings "Dangermouse" Theme tune in an electro-ish style, Happy days : ) EDIT: GO LISTEN TO MIKE HARDING, HE'S AN AWESOME PLAYER... END EDIT

In the interim it will probably be wise to get my hands on a 5 to begin the dev with swing. and then backport onto the kindle 3 platform when I am sure the jframe stuff is not getting in the way of progress. Better to succeed and work back than smack the head against the wall.

I see a few people have had a quick butchers at the code. looks perfect for a e-ink screen I think.

Anyways, I'm going to port your Miners4k to the kindle. not a rework or a new project based on the code techincally, just the same code mungled in the new warpper[sic] with an eink driver.

Ultimately I am trying to show that E-ink - and specifically the kindle - can KICK ARSE - even in monochrome.

Well... the Great KindleWhite Savior was not all I hoped it would be.

The lack of audio really does put a mockers on most of the projects I was interested in.

This thread may die. Time will tell.

Thought it was the decent thing to do, let you know the current mindset.

The likely SDL support has evaporated now, as has full compliance with most gaming conventions. Sad but a relfection of Amazons commitment to compete in the - what it sees as - lucrative pad market.

That leaves us with feature limited devices sadly which - all in - are now even less suited for the job than they were one iteration ago.

Love Minecraft and games of many types, if the new Paperweight device hold some hidden wonder that I have missed then perhaps the flames may be rekindled.

How about using the five way as a mouse and having w,a,s,d do the same thing as before?

Long center: leftclick
Short center: rightclick
Up: move camera up
Down: move camera down
Left: hopefully you get the point by now....
Right: see above
W: move forwards
A:move backwards
Etc....
