Sony Reader software and file associations
OK, I'm not happy about this but I can probably live with it - the main use will be downloading my wife's books from a third party source. However, what is really annoying me is the way that the Reader software forces its own file association on epub files. I've got a number of my own epub books on my PC and I'm perfectly happy using the Calibre or the Adobe ebook readers. As I don't really wish to have to keep changing the association back by hand I wonder if there is any way of stopping the Reader software from changing the file association. |

You don't need to use the Sony software, just Calibre. You can load DRM'd books onto an ADE authorized device using Calibre itself. You just can't convert to a different format. You can change the acsm association back to ADE by right clicking a file in that format and choosing to associate with ADE for all files (on Windows anyway). Your books can be added to Calibre from the "My Digital editions"folder in my documents if you opened/downloaded them in ADE originally. If not you add them from the Sony book folder (don't remember which one it is but is also in My Documents). As long as your device is authorized for the same ADE user, you should be able to open them.

I don't run the Sony software so I can't check right now, but it's somewhere in the software's settings. It was annoying to have it change associations every time I started it up when I did have it running until I found that setting and turned it off.

Both the PRS-T1 and the ADE have the same Adobe ID. I obviously need to carefully read the details in your post and then play around with things. |
