More tablets, less people reading, less eink devices long run: Forbes
http://www.forbes.com/sites/jeremygr...ers-read-less/ I would say, it's sad but I agree with it. |

Tablets are heavier and have worse battery usage than my Kindles (3 and 4) do. yeah, they're shiny and have neat stuff on them, but they'll never replace my dedicated ereader in my heart. And enhanced ebooks? forget it. If I wanted a movie, I'd go rent one. (is it sad that renting a movie comes first in my mind before going out to a theater?)

Agree, agree, agree ...
I love eink ... but look at the market and what people are buying: tablets. I honestly believe, hopefully I'm wrong, that big companies will focus more on tablets and less on manufacturing eink devices. |

I find the opposite to be true. I almost never pick up my tablet because it's heavier than my ereader and the battery life is horrible in comparison. I still find myself reaching for my eink ereader 99% of the time over the tablet.

There's two reasons I prefer the kindle to my iPhone or iPad for reading. First is weight and the second is reading outside.
Both are likely solvable, but until they are, most of my reading will continue to be on a kindle. Browsing the web on the other hand, that's iPad territory and sadly indoor only due to the sunlight issue :P |

I prefer to read on my Kindle way more than on a tablet.

If eInk departs and there isn't a non-backlit replacement, I'll quite reading and increase my reliance upon audiobooks for literature.
Reading is not a must have activity in my life. |

Maybe we'll see the big companies go tablet only (or mainly tablet) and smaller companies like Bookeen will pick up the slack.

Realize that "Tablets" are the "new shiny object."
I agree for all purpose use, the tablets will surpass the e Ink readers, but for those people who do have the ability to own both or just for those who can't afford the extra say $100 for the tablet, the e Ink readers will be a common choice. |

Yep, unless there is a breakthrough of some kind with e-ink, the tablet will rule for the average person. There will be a niche market for long-life battery/b&w e-ink, but the average person wants a tablet that does more. (but has less battery life...)

I always carry my Galaxy Note phone with me; 500 books in it (and hundreds of hours of music) and the screen si good enough to read from for hours with my 50+ eyes. At home I love reading from my Ipad. I used to own ereaders but I really don't see the point of them anymore, except for reading with direct sunshine on the screen.
I have to admit though, when I'm tired or distracted it is very easy to switch to Freecell or whatever, something that sdid not happen on my ereaders because the games where simply not there. But so what, complaining about too much choice sounds a little bit spoiled, and I don't think I for one actually read less now that other options are available on the same screen.
