Alexandre Dumas der Ältere auch Alexandre Dumas Davy de la Pailleterie oder Alexandre Dumas père) (24. Juli 1802 in Villers-Cotterêts, Département Aisne – 5. Dezember 1870 in Puys bei Dieppe, Seine-Maritime) war ein französischer Schriftsteller. Heute ist er vor allem durch seine zu Klassikern gewordenen Historienromane, wie etwa Die drei Musketiere und Der Graf von Monte Christo, bekannt. (aus Wikipedia)

"Ange Pitou" ist der dritte Teil der vierbändigen Romanreihe Memoiren eines Arztes des französischen Erfolgsautors, zu der auch "Joseph Balsamo", "Das Halsband der Königin" und "Die Gräfin von Charny" gehören, die Dumas, beginnend mit Joseph Balsamo, zwischen 1846 und 1855 in den Feuilletons der Pariser Zeitung La Presse veröffentlichte.
Als historischer Hintergrund dient bei Ange Pitou die Erstürmung der Bastille 1789. (nach Wikipedia)
