USB Cable not connecting

For a year and a half I was able to use a retractable USB/Micro USb cable for data transfer from computer to NC. It stopped recognizing the NC, and I can't figure out why. I have tried 4 different Micro USB cables all producing the same result. The only one that works is the original Nook Cable. Any suggestions?

same happened to me with my Sony cable. Seems that the clips are different. In my case the Nook would go on and off endlessly, unable to sync efectively. Use the original cable whenever possible!!!

I still use the original cable, but for quick data sync the retractable one was perfect. It just won't go into USB mode without the original cable.

Play in the connector?

When you plug in the retractable cable, is there more play (looseness) in the connection vs. the stock cable? You said this happened over time, which suggests the connector inside the Nook has loosened. There are typically a couple of tabs on a USB female connector to help maintain proper alignment of the connectors.

The bad news: if this is the issue, I don't know of how to fix it without opening the Nook to (slightly) bend the tabs.

I think I will try to open it up and bend the tabs.
