shift3 lookbook problems

I have same thing the shift3 lookbook and it will not update using wifi or the kobo sync thing at all what can i do? When it connects to the internet it does say it needs updaing then you check ok then says can not update. For the kobo thing it says syncs for two seconds then says finished but is not updated. And sometimes will not see the reader i have to keep plugging in till it does.

??? Never happened to anyone? I tried calling Sharper image and well the phone thing sucks on their end, go to music then says you need to call from 3pm-6pm PST (my time 6pm-9pm) and did and still gives me that i did not call at that time and hangs up on me.

I've never heard of this device before but I googled it to see if I could find out more. From what I can see it uses the Kobo app as its reading platform so I would assume it is similar or identical to the one used on android devices. This would make it separate from the hardware. The first thing to do would be to find out if the update is for the device's firmware or the Kobo app itself. If it's the hardware you're most likely going to have to contact the manufacturer of the device which I'm assuming is shift3. If it's the app you should contact Kobo. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Having similar problems with LookBook

I'm totally new to ereaders, but I'm having some of the same problems with my new Lookbook. It took forever to get it connected to my computer, but now it does that fine. But I can't find a book that I put on it. It shows that it's in an "unkown" folder in "my books" I can't see it on the reader at all, and I can't see the 25 books (that I don't want) on my F drive (lookbook).

I've tried updating with WiFi too. It starts it and then says it was cancelled. That's it. No other options. Can I do this through my computer?

I see the phone number, but what results did you get if you had these problems?
Edit: I called the number on the Merchsource web site AND on the instruction manuel and Kobo answered and said they didn't sell these readers and couldn't help me. Great.

I don't contact Kobo when I have issues with the Kobo app on my iPad unless they are problems with the Kobo app itself. The LookBook is not, to the best of my knowledge, a Kobo product so expecting Kobo to supply much in the line of tech support is risible.

However, Sameer from Kobo posted some information in another thread in spring 2012 about the LookBook. As far as I recall, he stated that the LookBook should automatically update to version 1.9 of the firmware when connected to a wi-fi device. One other suggestion that it was also updated when connected via USB to a computer running the Kobo desktop application. Evidently, you need to be on 1.9 at least before you can sideload epubs/PDFs and see them from the reader.

I think that a search on LookBook in the forum search should find the original message.
