Mac users steered toward costlier hotels than Windows users?
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/orbitz...040100900.html "Orbitz Worldwide Inc. has found that people who use Apple Inc.'s Mac computers spend as much as 30% more a night on hotels, so the online travel agency is starting to show them different, and sometimes costlier, travel options than Windows visitors see." What is the world coming to? ![]() Note to self: always book hotels from a PC.

I saw this elsewhere as well. I guess it's a good thing I no longer enjoy traveling.

It's a pretty smart (but shrewd) tactic ... I wonder how many other sites are doing something similar.

I believe that Arizona is now demanding that Windows users show their papers.

Mac users spend more money on hotels for the same reason they spend more money on computers, they are stupid. We all know that the more disposable income you have the more stupid you are.
Stupid people have always made more money than clever people

It's already here. Real-time advertisement auctions for what you see on a page, based on your browsing/Facebook/adSense/tracking cookie history right up to the second you click on the page.* Profiling not just your gadget but everything you do with it.
* Unless you use AdBlockPlus, Ghostery and sundry other useful addons, in which case they either don't bid, or waste their money. |

The only surprise is that they're making a big deal out of it.
(Probably because the big-media types are all MacPeople.) ![]() Everybody profiles everybody; it's a natural human trait. Appearances feed expectations. You show up at a restaurant driving a Mercedes, you'd better leave a big tip... or never come back. What I'd like to know is what kinds of lodgings the LINUX users are steered to. The EconoLodge near the techie flea market?

I wouldn't say they are stupid, more along the lines of being gullible. If it wasn't for Apple playing on the gullible they wouldn't have sold many devices, if any. The folks at Apple are masters at this...

All they're doing is showing more expensive options first. It doesn't appear to preclude the less expensive options. This makes sense. If the data shows that a mac user more likely wants a higher-end room, then there's nothing wrong with showing them what they more likely want.
