Upgrading Calibre always causes error

On my Mac, I always get an error if I install calibre.app without first deleting the old version.

I just tried it and see (OSStatus error -36).

This has been happening for months (which is a *lot* of Calibre upgrades).

I can delete the old app and then reinstall it. No other application has this bug.

I never get that problem on my Mac. I am now on Lion, but had calibre with Snow Leopard too. Works fine on both my MacBook and iMac.

I had my computer in the shop with some problems. Before the Apple Genius replaced the power supply, we did a format and restore. After they got it working, she tried a bunch of things to fix the Calibre update problem without luck. All of my permissions have been checked.

I've been reluctant to upgrade my Calibre on my Mac, because I don't want it to mess up my books. Am I supposed to delete the old version then, install the new version, or do I just drag the the new version to Applications and when it asks me to replace, say yes?

Uninstalling Calibre always LEAVES the Library behind.
I will leave the upgrade to a MAC person. Linux and Windows installs on OVER the existing (except that one case in version 6)

Whenever I update (not every time, but fairly often) I just drag the new version into the application folder, and click "yes" to overwrite the old version. Works fine every time, and I've never had any problems resulting from this in the ~1.5 years I've been using calibre. Since the books are stored separately from the application (and I've got regular backups of my system) I've never worried about it either.
