Why don't we just signup as Active Content Devs?
This way software we write would be on the kindle. We could make it free. And Amazon would allow it right?

Amazon is very restrictive about which companies they allow as registered developers. A lot of us have signed up, unsuccessfully...

And they would not let us put anything in their store until they tested it. The free stuff is mostly for promotional purposes. Although some if it has no "cost", it is not really "free" -- you are not free to do as you want to with it...

Did you try to register with amazon as an "active content developer"? How did that turn out?

  • First, what wou can do with active content is probably very limited. I doubt you can do anything that affects stuff outside of the app itself

To do useful stuff, you need your kindlet to escape the restricted sandbox. More than one solution for that has been provided here. The way to get the MOST powerful kindlets is to use a custom Java class loader.

Official amazon apps would certainly NOT be allowed to have such power, which would require hacks, if they were to be distributed by amazon.
