This is obviously a coincidence. Is there anyone to whom this has not happened in the last few days on their T-1?

It hasn't happened to my T1 recently. However it has happened maybe 3 times since October. It seems about once per month a new thread is generated reporting this issue. So it's not new and it seems not totally uncommon. It's certainly annoying when it happens.

It happened to me last night. When I turned a page in a library book, the loading screen came on an alternated with a blank screen. Hit all various buttons and plugged it in. I think it was a long hold on the reset button that broke the cycle. Then the T1 gave me an "opening your book" message and went back to normal. Mysterious.

I think most people have had at least one odd thing happen with their readers and this is across brands. I've had to reset my 650 twice since I've had it. I've had it about 1 year 8 months.

I've had this problem on several occasions. One thing I noticed that seems to cause it is when it tries to connect to a password protected wi-fi network that requires you to use a browser to log on. I've had the flashing happen at other times as well but I notice at my work, my device is always trying to log on to the network (which requires you to put in a login and pass through your browser) and when it picks up the wifi signal it starts the screen flash.

This has happened to me twice in the 10 days since I got the T1 (bought second hand), exactly a week apart. I noticed on both occasions that the screen was very dirty. I re-set the reader and then cleaned the screen. Wi-Fi was turned off and the battery was fully charged.

Wonder if the sensors for the touch screen get confused when the screen's dirty especially as I always seem to use the same area of the screen to turn the page.

I'm currently conducting an experiment to see if this is the case by only using the stylus or the buttons for a week. 4 days to go. Will then go back to using fingers to turn the page for a week and see what happens.

Dirty screen with finger prints and such should not matter. Lint and dirt blocking tiny notches along border next to screen blocks IR light for touch screen causing strange problems. Invisible IR light beams stopped by finger is what registers as touch. Don't even have to touch screen.

Happened to me twice in the past 10 days, most recently yesterday. The first time, doing the reset did the trick, and nothing was lost. Yesterday, after the reset, I found that I had to re-authorize, and then synch my reader to get it to function properly. I called Sony, and they told me to do a "Hard Reset", which I did after receiving emailed instructions. Hopefully that will do the trick. What concerns me is if this occurs when I am away on vacation, with no access to my PC for reauthorization.

You don't need a computer. If you have wi-fi you can reauthorize using "Reader Store"

Or you can liberate your books of any drm prison before putting them on T1. Additionally you can store a copies of your books on a cloud server to be able to download them wherever you have wi-fi access (in case your files get wiped in a reset).

Just happened to me for the first time. I got this reader December 2011. Just tried the reset (held for 10 sec) and then pressed the power button. Now it is frozen with the the refresh symbol (not spinning).

When I hit reset, the reader kept cycling on/off.

When I connected it to my computer, it went immediately to data transfer (which most times it doesn't). Disconnected and everything was fine (so far as I can tell right now) except it didn't remember where I was in the book I was reading.
