Non-Murder Mysteries

While I will read books with violence in them, all else equal I would rather not.

So -- Does anyone have recommendations for mysteries without murders or other extreme violence?

Examples I have already read are Gaudy Night by Dorothy L. Sayers (available here on Mobileread if your country is life plus 50), much of Nury Vittachi's Feng Shui Detective series, and most of Alexander McCall Smith's #1 Ladies' Detective Agency books.

Josephine Tey wrote about crimes other than murder and without a great deal of violence. Dick Francis wrote mysteries about swindles or fraud and the worst damage was usually a cracked rib when the hero inevitably got beat up.

A lot of the Sherlock Holmes stories are "murder-less". Though of course a many number of them are.

Is that really mystery though? I thought it focused more on the boy's aspergers than the actual mystery.

Thanks for the tip. I just read The Franchise Affair, which is indeed murderless. The suspense mostly revolves around the question of whether a violent crime actually occurred, so I can't say how low-violence it really is without giving away the ending.

I'll have to try Wolfe at some point. But Chandler? Are you sure?

Wolfe uses his brain. He has Archie Goodwin for the heavy stuff, anything having to do with leaving the house.

Not Chandler. There are usually multiple homicides in Chandler, in addition to other violence.
