Not hard at all, once X11 and a window manager is installed.
Translation:
The infrastructure is not present on the k3 to support the application.

For Pidgin on the K3, yes.
But there are xmpp (chat) clients that do not require a window manager and x11.
Find one of those that you like, and if it doesn't already run in one of the terminal apps here, start a thread about it.

I managed to hack in an account via the PC but the account type selection box does not display. also i noticed the resources were being searched for in /mnt/us/music/pidgin/share/icons/.... as an aside.

ho hum could have been nice.
