HowTo HELP ME - with data for Big Brother Blocker (BBB)

Enable your wireless connection -
Do any/all things that require a connection to Amazon -

Then describe (briefly) your Kindle Model (first four characters of your serial number) and your location in the world - to the nearest country at least.

Make a copy of this file:
/var/tmp/wan.intfprops from the Kindle's filesystem (you will need full filesystem access, see the various ssh/scp threads here).

Compress it with your favorite compress utility ;
Attach to your post.

Look at it with an editor if you wish, it is a combination of text and binary, but you can see that it reveals nothing personal.
Only the Amazon domains the Kindle is trying to reach in your part of the world, from your model.

This file "goes away" with every system re-boot.

Doh mine's empty obviously other than the header.

but yeah you could do it like that if you have ssh access.

Will repeat with a different device RSN.

there should be one of 3G also - but I don't have a 3G to test with.
the name should be obvious once you list that directory.

also never bothered with the later 3g offering. for me it didn't have that "Don't panic" value. sorry.

He referring to the "Better Business Bureau" which probably comes first to mind for a lot of Americans (it did for me until I looked at the thread titles in this forum).

Yup, that is fine for now.

I haven't tested 3G (yet) - if you had one of the BBB filters installed while using 3G - I would like to see a iptables -vnL dump of the firewall .

I also have the structure set up to make it easy to do packet capture and dump on the Kindle for anything we need a detailed look at.
(dump on Kindle, read with Wireshark on another machine)

Things like: How to allow the 'free wifi' authorization without exposing other parts of the Amazon data gathering network.
