Free (Amazon) Assorted Titles May 22nd listed separately

It's easier for me to post each title separately. That way I can add them throughout the day and give members a chance to grab them before the promos end.

The Dark Path by Luke Romyn. Horror. MR member (although I haven't seen him for awhile) gives us his 2009 book published by Wild Child free at least for today.

http://www.amazon.com/The-Dark-Path-...7700915&sr=1-1

Quote:
New York's underworld quivers at the mention of his name. Evil courses through his veins like blood and his conscience has lain dormant for over a decade while he has slashed and burned his way to the top of the food chain.

Vain.

The Dark Man, born of torment into an existence of death. In the underworld of killers he reigns supreme. And yet he is chosen for a task of supreme benevolence. Why would he be selected to save a young boy, the Avun-Riah, and then protect him against a horde of enemies, both mortal and demonic?

Because he is the only one with any hope of success.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse have risen from the pits of Hell and, along with a fanatical army of cultists, are ranged against Vain. If the boy is slain then Sordarrah will be raised to destroy the Earth, a feat even Lucifer never managed.

Evil is being used to fight evil in the ultimate battle for the outcome of all existence. Armageddon sits upon the horizon and all that stands in its way is a man whose path has always been dark....

The Scavenger's Daughter: A Tyler West Mystery by Mike McIntyre. Thriller. Claims to be published in 2010 by Kite Press. I can't find any info on them. Despite the glowing reviews I found the sample to be mediocre. Author is a newspaper journalist.
http://www.amazon.com/The-Scavengers...7701487&sr=1-1

Quote:
Disgraced newsman Tyler West is desperate for a scoop that will save his career. When he investigates the baffling deaths of several of San Diego's elite, he uncovers a common link: torture devices not used since the Dark Ages. Plunged into a mysterious world of medieval torture scholars, antiquities collectors and sadomasochists, he must break the brilliantly conceived series of slayings that has cast a dark shadow over a city better known for its sun, sand and surf. The elusive killer goes by the name Friar Tom, in tribute to his hero, Tomás de Torquemada, the first Grand Inquisitor of the Spanish Inquisition. As Ty scrambles to unmask the monstrous zealot, he is drawn into a lethal game of cat and mouse that could cost him everything.

Where Darkness Dwells by Glen Krisch. Horror/fantasy. Smashwords submitted although there is mention of Stray King Publishing(?). Scott Nicholson gives the author a positive blurb.
http://www.amazon.com/Where-Darkness...7702521&sr=1-1

Quote:
Summer, 1934. Two boys, searching for a local legend, stumble upon the Underground, a network of uncharted caverns. Time holds no sway there; people no longer age and their wounds heal as if by magic.

By morning, one boy is murdered, while the other never returns. Below a town ravaged by the Great Depression, an immortal society thrives, built on the backs of slavery and pervasive immorality.

Redheart (Leland Dragon Series) by Jackie Gamber. Seventh Star Press' free title this week. They offer them regularly so it may be good to bookmark their website. YA fantasy.
http://www.amazon.com/Redheart-Lelan...7703357&sr=1-1

Quote:
Enter the lands of Leland Province, where dragon and human societies
have long dwelled side by side. Superstitions rise sharply, as a severe
drought strips the land of its bounty, providing fertile ground for the
darker ambitions of Fordon Blackclaw, Dragon Council Leader, who
seeks to subdue humans or wipe them off the face of the land.

As the shadow of danger creeps across Leland Province, a young dragon
named Kallon Redheart, who has turned his back on dragons and
humans alike, comes into an unexpected friendship. Riza Diantus is a
young woman whose dreams can no longer be contained by the narrow
confines of her village, and when she finds herself in peril, Kallon is the
only one with the power to save her. Yet to do so means he must confront
his past, and embrace a future he stopped believing in.

A tale of friendship, courage, and ultimate destiny, Redheart invites
readers to a wondrous journey through the Leland Dragon Series.

Safe Harbor by Rosemary McCracken. Mystery/suspense. A repeat freebie published by Canadian publisher Imajin (pronounced like imagine) the debut novel that was shortlisted for Britain's Crime Writers' Association's Debut Dagger Award in 2010.
http://www.amazon.com/Safe-Harbor-eb...7703934&sr=1-1

Quote:
What would you do to protect your family?

Financial advisor Pat Tierney’s world is shattered when a visitor to her office tells her that Pat's late husband is the father of a seven-year-old boy. Stunned by the revelation of her husband's affair, Pat is even more shocked when the woman bolts from the office, leaving young Tommy behind.

The Consultant (Barry/McCall Series) by Claude Bouchard. Crime/drama I'm guessing. The Montreal residing author decided to put the 2nd book in the series as free promo but reviewers say to read his first book Vigilante before this one. Positive reviews. Suspicions raised. Self published on lulu. Sample first.

Quote:
The friendly takeover of CSS Inc. leaves computer executive Chris Barry unemployed, very wealthy and pleased with the situation.

But the hiatus is short-lived...

As a result of his involvement in the recent Vigilante investigation, Barry is approached by Jonathan Addley and invited to join Discreet Activities, a government agency of the clandestine variety,

Accepting, he promptly takes on his first assignment under the guise of an IT consultant, to investigate possible links between a local import business and the murder of its MIS director.

As he discovers the firm is being used to import narcotics, his cover is blown and things get personal, spurring him to show that murderers, drug lords, biker gangs and kidnappers are no match for...

...The Consultant

And, finally we have:

October's Ghost by Ryne Douglas Pearson. A techno thriller in his Art Jefferson series originally published in 1994 by W Morrow. He has been reviewed by PW and LJ. One of his screenplays became a film Mercury Rising, I believe.
http://www.amazon.com/Octobers-Ghost...7708741&sr=1-1

Quote:
This would-be techno-thriller initially appears to have the requisite action ingredients. While the Russians and Americans are at a delicate point in disarmament talks, a U.S. submarine vanishes. In Cuba, as an anti-Castro revolt nears success, Castro launches an atomic warhead hidden for 30 years. Then an FBI agent is gunned down in L.A. by Cuban hit men out to silence a defector. But almost immediately, Pearson's ( Cloudburst ) sprawling, overcrowded novel becomes mired in its own excesses. Events escalate at a barely manageable rate, as informers are chased, a boozing journalist survives one narrow escape after another, and the LA police try to solve domestic crimes with international overtones. In addition to an overwhelming number of poorly defined characters and turgid prose, the novel suffers from Pearson's incomplete mastery of present and past events as he mingles history with speculation. Some readers may also be short-circuited by all the techno-babble. Still, this partial misfire provides ample fodder for conspiracy buffs and military historians to chew on.
Forgot to mention his book Cloudburst is also free. PW seemed to like this one better.
