Be interesting to know which way the balance - K4PC to kindle - is. If the proportion's significantly one way or the other, it might well give a fascinating, and perhaps telling, insight into Amazon strategy.

No. Amazon are famously secretive about such things.

The problem is that a lot of (most?) people do both.
Whispernet/sync makes it convenient to download the apps to your PC and Phone even if you do the bulk of your reading on the device. Conversely, a lot of folks who have started with the apps have also acquired readers. Others use the apps to search the store or shop. Given that the apps are a good way to cheaply expand access to the ebooks for family members and that it's the simplest way to DeDRM, the raw activation numbers won't be telling you much about what people prefer or use: there are undoubtedly more apps registered than ereaders but when it comes to actual, active use...? Odds are Amazon doesn't know either. Last edited by fjtorres; 05-19-2012 at 07:24 AM. |

I only use K for PC to download kindle books to be converted to epub. Otherwise I have no use for it.

That's why figures would be pretty meaningless. If someone were to look at my Amazon account, they'd see that every single book I've bought from Amazon has been sent to Kindle for PC. But the only reason for that is that it's the most convenient way to get them into Calibre. I read all my Kindle books on an actual Kindle.

I also have Kindle installed on my iPod touch and my iPad, but I'm not sure if I've ever used them to read anything, except for the few months between when I bought my iPod touch and when I bought my first ereader. |
