for only $10 more i suppose its a good deal. however these annual tech updates of everything have gotten really, really stale. release a new one when there is a mind-blowing new edition, not .1 upgrades. i think all they do is slow adoption because anyone who is interested inevitably ends up saying 'why buy it now when there will be a better one in a year'. its an endless cycle. i'd work on getting what they've already got available as cheaply as possible for explosive adoption instead of continually ramping up production on new devices.

I do hope the light-guide layer is more rugged than the Nook Glow's.

I also wonder if Kobo and Sony will jump in with compatable models.
(I hope Sony doesn't; I don't need the temptation. My T1 is only 5 months old. )

No interest here in a side lit reader from any of the sellers, especially if it degrades quality/contrast as some have said it does on the Nook (haven't seen one yet).

I really wish one (or more) of these manufacturers would focus a bit on improving their device software/firmware.

I'll give it a look. I've been looking forward to something like this for a while. And with an additional cost of about $10...that has me pretty jazzed.

With its glowlight turned off the text on the Nook with Glowlight might degrade, I can't tell if it if it does, but the point of having the glowlight is to turn it on. I've left the glowlight on my Nook at 1/3 brightness and it makes reading in normal indoor lighting like sitting under a reading lamp or reading outdoors on a sunny day. In actual use, the Nook glowlight works better than it looks like it will when viewed under the store's powerful overhead lighting. I can't imagine the Kindle being less effective.

I feel the front light is an important upgrade--well, maybe it's a minor upgrade in the sense of being easy for them to do--but it is a big improvement in readability.

I agree that it would be great if they would fix the way the Nook handles sideloaded books on the SD card. It drops them out of your categories (Nook calls them Shelves) every time you update the contents of your SD card but that could probably be fixed with a software upgrade.
