Free (Kindle KDP) Golden Queen by David Farland/Wolverton [Space Opera Fantasy Quest]
Today, the KDP Select exclusive-or-else slushpile has spat forth a nifty backlist treat for lovers of space opera and epic fantasy, because apparently you get a 2-in-1 combo by a reasonably prominent author who seems to have a good deal of experience doing such.
The Golden Queen by "David Farland" was originally published by Tor in 1994 under the name Dave Wolverton (ISFDB, Wikipedia), which may be familiar to you from his Star Wars tie-in novels, and now re-released under his new pseudonym.
This is the 1st in an eponymous 3-book epic quest trilogy which blends fantasy tropes with an sfnal space opera setting, much like SW does.

When Gallen O’Day is hired to as a bodyguard to escort a young woman through the woods to the forbidden ruins at Geata Na Chruinn, it seems like an ordinary job—but all too soon, he finds himself fleeing for his life from creatures that seem like escapees from a nightmare—the alien dronon, led by their golden queen. With his best friend, a genetically engineered talking bear named Orick, and his girlfriend Maggie, Gallen soon finds himself tangled in an interstellar war that he never knew existed, racing across a host of worlds, confronted by a future unlike any that he had ever imagined.
I have a lab in 20 minutes, so I only took a quick look into the abyss which also gazes back into you. Some of the better backlist stuff from yesterday's late evening post may still be free.
Zebra-published Doreen Owens Malek returns with a contemporary romance which she says was first published in 1987: Danger Zone
Avalon-published Mona Ingram returns with a nurse/pilot contemporary romance set in BC's Okanagan Valley: Fallen Angel
ISFDBed Amber D. Sistla returns with a collection of her sf shorts: The Light of Other Moons (Science Fiction Short Story Collections)
Ellora's Cave-published Patricia Mason offers a comedic f/m action thriller spoof: In Deep Shitake (A Humorous Romantic Suspense) She and a number of "Free Par-TAY" authors, some of them previously published and offering backlist works, are having a freebie promotion for the next couple of days and you can see details and titles in her blurb.
Reasonably significant backlist & established author repeats from Robert W. Walker, Roger Smith, Paul Bishop, J.D. Rhoades, Morgan Nyberg, many of them in published series if you're missing volumes.
Happy reading, if indeed you manage to spot anything you think you might like, or space opera epic fantasy quests take you to your happy place where you keep your Star Wars LEGO figurines.
