Rare Interview with William Burroughs in Sensitive Skin #8
As one of the editors, I'm thrilled beyond sanity and pants to report that Issue #8 is now inflicting its wrath upon the web and your local bookstore (yes, the one you own)! May its treble entendres singe your pelvic eyebrows! It features a rare interview with William Burroughs conducted by Allen Ginsberg; previously unpublished photos of W.B., Sid Vicious and stately punks o' yore by ReSEARCH photographer Ruby Ray; and snappy writing and artwork by a propinquity of begetters. Though we've tastefully omitted references to the William Tell Overture in this issue, we've crafted this special cover to hint at the explosive chortles that await those (and I mean yous) who happen to crack it. ![]() Here was the beauty part for that mien of misery, Prestidigitweeze: Actually editing the interview with Burroughs, as well as the previously unpublished passages from Allen Ginsberg's journals. Also featured: Neo-noir fiction by James Greer from Guided by Voices, and the visceral Mike Hudson, as well as a Victorian horror variation by Rob Hardin. This issue, I'm especially happy to have gotten to know the writing of Thaddeus Rutkowski (author of Teched (yes, that's the way it's spelled) and Roughhouse) and Chavisa Woods, an intricate yet colloquial new writer with novels from Autonomedia and Fly by Night, and another due next fall from Westgate Press.

“How to Write the First 3 Paragraphs of YOUR Indie Novel” - by Max Waxwelp 1) Always write 3 sentences of exposition; 2) now create some dialogue, preferably no more than 2 sentences; and 3) make certain the dialogue is either inane or humorous. Example: “Bob, I did not know you wore yellow suspenders,” Sally remarked. “Gee, Sally, those are not suspenders. I am wearing yellow underwear today,” Bob revealed. The dialogue above will help produce at least 100 more pages of dialogue. |

Update:
The William Burroughs section of our latest issue got an excellent write-up by David Ulin of the L.A. Times. Ulin talks about the difficulties of interviewing the perversely taciturn author of Naked Lunch, which Ulin, too, experienced on a visit to W.B.'s residence in Lawrence, Kansas. L.A. Times: The Reading Life Interesting, too, that Ulin mentions SF writer, critic and itinerant funster, Charles Platt. I wasn't aware the latter attempted to interview Mr. Burroughs, but it appears Mr. Platt had a rougher time of it than practically anyone else. [See image post #1 - MODERATOR] Here's an account in the New York Press of our celebration of the latest issue at the Bowery Poetry Club: New York Press: Magazine Celebrates Eighth Issue [See image post #1 - MODERATOR] From the event: Carl Watson reading from his latest novel, Backwards the Drowned Go Dreaming, published this late spring by Sensitive Skin Books.
