I remember liking the Belgariad and the Malloreon series by David Eddings. I don't think they are being sold as ebooks.

Haven't dug very deeply but at least the first two of the Belgariad books are available at Amazon.

I think that list conclusively proves that people are idiots.

Well, OK, it demonstrates how subjective fantasy is. Some it is almost alternating yeses and nos from me.

Here are a couple of suggestions:

The Magic of Recluce by LE Modesitt Jr (Recluce Series)
The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett (Discworld)
Legend by David Gemmell (Drenai)
Trudi Canavan?

They don't have Piers Anthony's Xanth series?

I'd throw in at least three more works by Guy Gavriel Kay, along with The Broken Sword by Poul Anderson, and Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke.

Given the list, I'm surprised Harry Potter isn't on there. Which isn't meant to say I'm disparaging either the list or Harry Potter.

Hm. Looks like a list of the first books of each series, but they may not necessarily be the best of the series. For example, you have Steven Erikson's Gardens of the Moon on the list, but I think Memories of Ice, which is book 3 of the Malazan Book of the Fallen Series, is actually the best of the series. And I would almost go so far as to say that he has not been able to top himself after that. Same with the Dark Tower series...The Gunslinger is book one, and I thought it was poorly written. I heard other books in the series were significantly better.

Where do you get this ranking? It makes little to no sense. Why aren't the books listed in vote order?

They are in rating order. The number of votes is the number of ratings, I believe.
