‘Christ in Flanders’ (Jésus-Christ en Flandre) 1831 Translated by Ellen Marriage A short story of about 7,000 words. Jesus Christ appears to save people from shipwreck in medieval Flanders. The situation is contrasted with French Catholicism in 1830, where it is the church itself which needs rescuing.
