Dymocks: iRex iLiad goes Down Under

Psst, guys, cat's out of the bag, today Dymocks officially launched the first e-book reader in Australia -- and it's the iRex iLiad! Without doubt, its 8.1-inch 1024 x 768 screen is the best money can buy today. And speaking about money, diligent MobileReaders discovered that you can still save a few bucks if you order through iRex's international webstore instead of buying it directly from Dymocks.

I wish you could save more than a few bucks... as much as I'd like an Iliad, that sucker's still pricey!

They are not the first in Australia to launch a reader but they sure are making the most noise about it.

This company used to sell ebook readers. I don't know what happened to them, but it doesn't look like they do it anymore.

Yea, they had a Hiebook for sale until a month or so ago. They still have some eBook offering but it is a more generalized product. I expect them to get another eBook Reader at some point. You might want to put a bug in their ear.

They should also sell Bookeen's ebook device because Bookeen also support Mobipocket's format. In terms of price, Bookeen is much more competitive than Irex.

Do you think someone in marketing ("first up against the wall when the revolution comes" *) has heard "unprecedented demand" too often, and just thrown it in because it sounds good. Of course the "demand" is "unprecedented"; they've never sold them before!

Didn't they have an initial total of thirty (30) in stock? It sort-of contrasts a bit against their "unprecedented demand". I wonder if it will make the news, but without the "30" bit.
